Wow - long time no post...

So I got this message from a friend:
Where's your blog link gone? I want to see what your are not doing!
Which is fair enough :) Actually, I've been doing a bit recently, mainly diet based (lost around a stone since September) and had a few new years resolutions to get out and do some running & cycling. The weather's been so crap I hadn't done either, but the first clear lunchtime of the new year (yesterday), I got out for a run. It went a lot better than I expected, doing something like seven sets of three minutes, with three minute rests (the plan was 2 x (3m run + 3m walk) + 2 x (90s run + 90s walk)). Feel stiff today, but hey - to be expected.

Quiet recently - got out for a bike ride yesterday

Been quiet here recently, which is generally a bad sign. Been meaning to get out on the bike a bit but put it off for one reason or another. It's a bank holiday weekend in the UK this weekend and my initial thoughts were to do 100k over the weekend. Not getting out on Saturday put that at jeopardy immediately, but I did get out yesterday. I decided to extend my short 10 mile route a bit and see how I got on. First thing to say about 'new' route is that it's bloody hilly, at least by Cambridgeshire standards. I'd to tackle most of the hills in stages, with my head hanging over the handlebars sucking in air during the rests. I'm also trying a new tactic with hills whereby I essentially forget about gears and use the lowest one available - I spin that out until legs start to build up with lactic, then I try and push for another 25 or so (half?)revolutions before stopping. I can't find the dongle right now to upload the route, but according to the Garmin the ride was 29.34km in 1hr 45m 54s (16.6 kmph). Disappointing on the average speed, but given the hills, I'm not surprised. I'm planning on getting out later today for a flatter 30km ride - be interesting to see how that compares.

Bad week - for a reason (kinda)

Not done anything this week - initially due to laziness but then down to a work related injury. I was down in our Canary Wharf office on Tuesday, on the 38th Floor. There were rumours of a fire drill which unfortunately came through - typical. I didn't think it'd be a problem despite what people were saying - just figured they were exaggerating for comic effect. Anyhow, made it down fine - steps seemed to go on forever. Bit of a sweat towards the end, but no real biggie. Went back up via lifts after about half an hour of milling around and all was well. People were saying that the following day \ two days after I'd be suffering and boy were they right. I pretty much had to scrape myself out of bed on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Stairs (up and down) were a serious pain - moving after a period sitting down, equally so. That said, I feel like I've finally recovered and planning a cycle tomorrow - watch this space.

C25K: W2R1

Weigh-in @ 129.1kg this morning, down a little from last week.

Lazy weekend, aside from walking the dog, which I guess is better than nothing. Started back on the C25K again this evening, starting at week two (reps of 1m30s jog followed by 2m recovery). Went well aside from stitch after the penultimate jog, which meant I took a longer break.

Can't complain besides and could have possibly done more. Gato seemed to enjoy the run as well - change in routine for him as well.

Lazy day

Weigh-in @ 129.2kg (-0.5) this morning. Didn't do any exercise besides walking the dog, but better than nothing I guess. Food wasn't too good today, with some chocolate at work and a bad breakfast. Found my Forerunner 610 so will probably be using that from now on, given the Forerunner 305 is a bit dodgy these days.

Back on the bike

Weigh-in this morning was a monumentous 129.7kg.

Got out for second ride this week - last one was on Friday. A hell of a lot better than that, more or less 4m 30s faster over 10 miles. Felt a lot better and it was a glorious evening, if a little cold.

'Diet*' wise, not too bad a day - relatively sensible eating, not much junk food (2 x muffins which for me is a good day). Lets see how the scales go tomorrow.

* I'm not actually on a diet.

New blog?

After my miserable attempts of getting back into the fitness game, I'm going to give it another go. I'm debating trying my hand again at blogging about it, in an attempt to keep myself honest and accountable. Is there any interest out there - anyone follow this, etc.? I'm thinking a new start could be useful, but maybe there's a case for keeping it here for posterity. Any comments \ suggestions welcome
